These is where the concept of parts of speech. So, exactly what are parts of speech? Parts of speech are categories in English grammar that we use to classify words based on their role and function in a sentence. In English, there are eight parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. Understanding the various parts of speech is essential for anyone looking to improve their writing. You can create sentences that are clear, concise, and impactful if you know how to use it effectively.
Okay so here I want to explain about 3 types of sentences in English.
1. Simple Sentence
A
simple sentence is a short sentence consisting of a subject and a predicate. In
other words, it can be said that a simple sentence is one main clause. It can
also be a combination of a phrase and a clause.
A simple sentence has a formula like this :
Subject + Verb + Complement / Object
example :
a. Hima reads a book.
hima as subject | reads as verb | a book is a object
b. Jisoo is singing a song.
Jisoo as subject | is as verb auxiliary | singing as verb ordinary | a song as object
c. I watched movie last night.
I as subject | watched as verb | movie as object | last night as adverb
2. Compound Sentences
Compound sentences are sentences that consist of two simple sentences. This can happen if a coordinate conjunction is inserted between the two simple sentences.
Coordinate conjunction consists of for, and, nor but, or, yet, so.
A simple sentence has a formula like this :
Subject + Verb + Object/Complement + Coordinate Conjunction + Subject + Verb + Object/Complement
example :
a. Hima likes spicy food but her sister likes sweet food.
Hima likes spicy food as first simple sentence
but as coordinate conjunction
her sister likes sweet food as second simple sentence
b. Nina writes the story for content in her blog
c. Kiki goes to school so she can meet her friends
3. Complex Sentences
A complex sentence is a sentence that consists of two clauses. The two clauses that are always present in a complex sentence are the main/independent clause (parent clause) and the dependent clause (subordinate clause).
Complex
sentences are combined with subordinate conjunctions or subordinating
conjunctions. Subordinate conjunctions include before, after, when, while, in
order to, although, even though, whenever, wherever, even if, as if, and
others.
The formula of a complex sentence is
Independent Clause + Subordinate Conjunction + Dependent Clause.
Or
Subordinate Conjunction + Dependent Clause + Independent Clause.
example :
a. Hima reads the book while Ara eats her food.
Hima reads the as independent clause | while as Subordinate Conjunction |
Ara eats her food as Dependent Clause.
b. If it's raining outside, Doni will still go to school.
c. Wherever she goes, he will always follow her.
Understanding the differences between these sentence types is crucial for creating clear and effective written communication in English. You will be better able to express your thoughts and ideas with accuracy and simplicity if you master these structures.
